Its that time of the year again. The fond memories of the previous year are fading. You can barely recall the RAC man taking the p1ss out of your car as he loads it onto his wagon in the hotel car park. You have almost forgotten the two mile oil slick from removing your sump at 80mph. There are some slight, disjointed memories of beautiful roads, great company and a couple of shandies. In your minds eye you can picture missing an apex, whilst in the background the mountains fall away to stunning beaches. The desire to go back, get that corner right and on the power earlier, becomes an urge, a longing, a throbbing beast of want. So you go down the curry house with your mate, a map and a plan, and this what you come up with. A Fscking Big Blat.

Friday 20th may.
Depart from a quality establishment just outside Newcastle and head north by north west. Straight onto some of the best blatting roads the North East has to offer, we are going up through Kielder, Peebles, Round Glasgow and onto our lunch stop on the shore of Loch Lomond. Apart from the round Glasgow bit a lovely taster for what is to come. Shortly after lunch we head over the Rest and Be Thankfull and follow a great road full of ups and downs, twists and turns into Oban. There we retire to our hotel, place ourselves into the bar and relive the great days blatting over a couple of Mohitos (or a pint of Tennants if your that way inclined). We are staying at http://www.obancaledonian.com/

Saturday 21st May
Up bright and early, feeling as fresh as the day you were born. We will be staying on the west coast all day heading mostly North. Can the A87 between Invergarry and the Kyle of Lochalsh be taken flat without lifting? Or should the car be dropped into top, a smooth steady pace enjoyed and the views taken in. Your blat your choice. Lunch at the Applecross Inn, if you so wish - is there a better spot on the west coast to have great fish and chips? After lunch we carry on following the coast, trying not to smash a sump or break a drive shaft, until we get to our hotel in Ullapool for the
evening. www.royalhotel-ullapool.com If strange men from foreign isles
wave you onto there ship, offering clear spirits in plastic glasses - don t go!

Sunday 22nd May
Ullapool to Pitlochry. Could be almost boring if you go the straight way.
But don t worry, we wont be. Looping up northwards along some of the most empty roads in the country, we quickly go coast to coast. A short stint of the A9 to get round Inverness and then its back to the fun. Over the Lecht and Glenshee to our last hotel. The really quite lovely www.athollpalace.com . Stand on the grass outside the hotel, supping a pint, enjoy the sunset and the great company. Is there a better place in the world to be.

Monday 23rd May
Homeward bound. But with diversions. Good ones. Dukes pass. A quick shimmie round Edinburgh and then back to the classic North East blatting we know and love. Arrive home in time for tea. Shattered, sun burnt, and happy.
